So the big news of the summer is this: I got a job. A. Job. Job? Job. JOB.
It is the most amazing thing.
Frans and I both graduated in May, and his library science degree was the only halfway useful thing between the two of us. We assumed that by the end of summer we’d both still be unemployed, scraping to make ends meet, and probably moving back to the mainland, maybe to live with my parents while we kept applying for jobs.
WRONG.
Frans got a full-time reference/instruction librarian position at a private university downtown. A week later, I started as Digital Media Specialist at Sinclair Library, the (in my opinion) cooler of the two libraries on campus at the state university where Frans and I both did our graduate work. Here it is:
What do I do? Well, it’s a new position, and we’re all still trying to figure it out, really. I do know I’m going to be deeply involved in the digitization effort for the library’s older video holdings – mainly U-Matic, Beta, and VHS tapes. Right now I’m getting to know the place and doing a lot of research on digitization equipment, best practices, file formats . . . the works. There is a lot I need to learn, but I feel like I’m in a really good place, and working with really good people.
And with two full-time incomes after three years of grad school? Dude, we’re gonna be MILLIONAIRES.

Dude, congratulations! That’s really amazing, and especially in this economy! And that’s so great that it’s in the field you want. B is now looking for work after finishing the bar; she has a few possibilities and an interview next week.
We’re all going to be rich!
Thanks so much, Aaron! I hope the interview goes well next week. Bring on the MONEY :)
