An op-ed piece in today’s New York Times makes an important point: we need to take care of our soil. Or we’re screwed.
I’m very interested in the agricultural issues facing the US. I always joke about dropping out of grad school to be a farmer, but it’s not just a joke. I think a country as big and powerful and “advanced” as the US needs to have a clearer picture of where its food is coming from and what the consequences are of some of its past and current food and agricultural policies.

I so agree. We are busily paving over some rich farmland.. Homestead, FL is a good example of that. The Miami area has some rich, but limited amount of soil that is ideal for truck farming. But the pressures of extending suburbia are fast eating away at it.
